Big Al’s 10th Prentiss Youth Camp A Success

For the 10th straight year, Big Al took the trip back home to Prentiss, Mississippi to give back to the community that raised him.

This week marked the 10th Annual Al Jefferson Youth Basketball Camp at Prentiss High School, where kids got a free afternoon of instruction and fun basketball activity with Big Al. Kids also walked away with a camp t-shirt a free basketball and other gear provided by Al and his sponsors.

But for the 14-year NBA veteran, the biggest goal is to encourage young boys and girls from his neighborhood to maintain a positive outlook on life. And the reward for him personally comes from just giving those kids from his community a place to go and an outlet that he didn’t have growing up.

“Every year I come into the gym knowing why I’m here and what I’m doing,” Al said. “It feels amazing, because you know we would have loved to have a free basketball camp thrown by an NBA player when we were young. So to be able to give those kids that experience, it’s a good feeling.”
