Triplets Get Back on Track

The Triplets won their league leading fifth game of the season on Saturday night in the Vivint Smart Home Arena.

Al Jefferson scored 12 points while grabbing seven rebounds as the Triplets defeated the winless Ball Hogs 51-34. The 17-point margin of victory was just one point shy of tying the largest in the BIG3 this year.

The first bucket for the Triplets came via an “Iso” Joe Johnson steal under the basket in which he dished the ball to Big Al for the layup. The dominance of the captain and co-captain became the narrative of the first half.

The two combined for 24 of the Triplets’ 26 first-half points. Iso Joe nailed a four-pointer, a floater, and then he dished a beautiful pass down low to Sergerio Gipson. Gipson drew the foul and nailed the free throw to get the Triplets to 10, the only bucket of the half not scored by Big Al or Iso Joe.

With the 10-9 lead, Big Al scored back-to-back buckets for the Triplets, the first coming off of another Iso Joe assist leading to a Jefferson layup, and the second from the free throw line.

The Ball Hogs managed to tie the game at 14, but the Triplets closed the half out with a 12-0 run.

Big Al began the run on a layup after he got wide open as he fooled Qyntel Woods with a head fake, which sent him out of bounds behind the baseline.

Iso Joe brought them the rest of the way, capping the first half off with a one-handed slam after he stripped Will McDonald to send the teams into the locker room with the Triplets leading 26-14.

The Triplets cruised to victory in the second half, where their lead peaked when Big Al swished a mid-range jumper to increase the lead to 22.

Next weekend, the Triplets travel to Milwaukee to take on the 3 Headed Monsters in the Fiserv Forum. The 3 Headed Monsters are led by two-time NBA All-Star Rashard Lewis and are coached by Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Gary Payton.

Tip-off for the BIG3 this Sunday is set for 4 p.m. ET.
