Four-Pointer Completes the Comeback
The Triplets remained atop the BIG3 standings with a comeback victory over the 3 Headed Monsters on Sunday in Milwaukee that was capped off by a remarkable four-point game-winning shot courtesy of Joe Johnson.
Al Jefferson scored four points and grabbed three rebounds as the Triplets were able to sneak out a 50-48 victory, their sixth of the season.
Big Al’s two buckets came early in the contest, the first of which Al cleaned up an “Iso” Joe missed layup. Al followed that up scoring the Triplets’ next bucket as well, sneaking by Rashard Lewis to get to the hoop for the layup to keep the game tight early.
Those were Big Al’s only two field goals of the night in a game where Iso Joe carried the team to the finish line.
The Triplets trailed by as many as 14 in the second half, but the captain kept them within striking distance. Iso Joe scored his team’s first 12 second-half points, but it was not until the rest of the team got going that the Triplets began to make their move.
The Triplets went on a 13-0 run to trim their deficit to only one point, as the 3 Headed Monsters still lead 37-36. The run was then halted by a 6-0 run from the 3 Headed Monsters, highlighted by a Mario Chalmers four-point play.
In a game of runs, the Triplets closed out the game on another run of their own, outscoring the 3 Headed Monsters 12-2 to reach the 50-point mark and bring home a victory.
In what was a tightly contested, highly entertaining matchup, the finish was rightfully dramatic. Trailing 48-46, the Triplets were near defeat and in need of at least two points. However, Joe Johnson, with ice in his veins, ended the game with a contested step-back four-point shot from the left wing, giving the Triplets a two-point victory.
Next weekend, the Triplets have their bye week, and they do not take the floor again until they battle the Ghost Ballers on August 17th for their final regular season game.
